With apologies to Paul Harvey, we at Dawg Sports have already covered the three biggest stories of the past 24 hours in Bulldog Nation in stand-alone form. What we have here are the stories you nevertheless need to be aware of before you get back to emailing Greg McGarity an outdated copy of Bill Goldberg's resume.
Hugh Freeze signs $4 million Ole Miss deal, Josh McDaniels a Florida contender - SBNation.com
Santa Claus's real name is Jimmy Sexton. Also I would be thrilled for Florida to hire another NFL offensive genius who'll give them a decided schematic advantage. Help me out, other than Pete Carroll has there been another longtime NFL coach who found ready success moving to the college game? Nick Saban barely got his boxes unpacked in Miami so I'm not counting him. But going to the NFL for collegiate head coaching has been a dicey proposition.
Colorado State coach Jim McElwain did speak with Florida about coaching job
Jim McElwain on the other hand would actually worry me. He turned things around in the Rockies in a hurry after leaving Saban's employ at Alabama. He's known as a good recruiter but a great college X's and O's coach. He also has a $7.5 million buyout. And I want the Gators' decision to part ways with Will Muschamp to sting.
Stocking up: Georgia pulls in two recruits over weekend | Online Athens
In addition to JUCO linebacker Chuks Amaechi Georgia also picked up a recent commitment from North Cartolina tailback B.J. Emmons. I'll have a more thorough breakdown of Emmons soon, but I was interested to see that he recently had a court date for a misdemeanor drug possession charge. That's not something that you see often regarding Georgia recruits. I'm assuming that the Bulldog coaches feel comfortable with Emmons' explanation of the situation. Because we're not that desperate for tailback help. I'd also assume that this means that the rumors of JUCO commit Chris Carson flipping to Louisville are on the Bulldog coaches' minds, along with recent injury woes at the position. Tailbacks are like bourbon and retirement savings: you can never have enough.
Georgia has many things to consider after the bowl game | University of Georgia | Macon.com
Seth Emerson has a few suggestions for the coaching staff for the offseason. One that will surely draw your attention is the call to give Mike Bobo a raise to bring him closer to parity with Jeremy Pruitt. While there are certainly arguments against Bobo's effectiveness in key situations his offense's production remains in the top 3 in the conference year after year. Not to rekindle old arguments, but while we can say Bobo hasn't been perfect no one can reasonably say he hasn't been among the best in the SEC at putting points on the board. If Mark Richt wants to keep him, he needs to pay the world's best playcalling Michael Stipe impersonator accordingly.
Georgia hopes to end road woes at Chattanooga | University of Georgia | Macon.com
Georgia's mens hoops squad follows its recent trip to New York City with one to....Chattanooga. While it's a bit early for "must wins", following losses to Gonzaga and Minnesota in the NIT Tipoff tournament I think it's fair to label this game a "would really, really hurt to lose."
That should get you started. Remember, it's great to be a Georgia Bulldog.
