There's still football afoot this morning at both the high school and collegiate level. Of course this afternoon brings the annual Army/Navy game. But concurrently, the Georgia High School Association is holding its state championship games in the Georgia Dome, each of them broadcast live on GPTV.
As we speak Eagle's Landing and Mount Paran are playing the class A private school championship. In that game keep an eye on Mount Paran standout Dorian Walker, who may be a candidate for a late offer from Georgia if we find ourselves with space available. If not he counts offers already from Cincinnati, Memphis, and Perdue. The first game of the afternoon, kicking off in the one o'clock hour, is the AA matchup of Benedictine and Greater Atlanta Christian, which will feature Tennessee commit Micah Abernathy and recent Bulldog pledge Darius Slayton.
At 4:30 perennial AA power Buford will attempt to complete its a move to AAAA with a title over underdog St. Pius X* The Buford Wolves feature a variety of college prospects, including Georgia Southern pledge (and brother of Bulldog Kolton Houston) Konner Houston, and the top tight end in the class of 2016, Isaac Nauta. Nauta has had offers from major programs (including Georgia) since the conclusion of his freshman season, and is ranked among the top 4-5 players in the state (and top 50 in the nation) for 2016. While the Florida State Seminoles are considered the favorite for his services at this point, Coach Lilly is recruiting him hard for the 'Dawgs.
Finally at 8:00 Archer of Atlanta will take on south Georgia power Colquitt County. Archer features 2016 standout wide receiver/tight end Kyle Davis. Davis is currently committed to South Carolina but the Red and Black offered him this fall and haven't let up in recruiting him. I'm on record saying Davis is one of the most physically impressive prospects in the southeast for 2016. The kids deltoids have deltoids. And biceps. And a six pack. His teammate, 2017 prospect Jamyest Williams ran the fastest 40 time at this summer's Mark Richt Camp and holds offers already from Michigan, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Kentucky, Lousiville, and Wisconsin. While Georgia hasn't offered yet, Williams is being recruited hard by the Bulldogs and may well end up in the red and black. The question will be whether it's at receiver, tailback, or corner.
So enjoy your Saturday and feel free to use this thread to discuss all the day's games, whether in Atlanta or Baltimore, or wherever else you find gridiron action. Until later . . .
Go 'Dawgs!!!
