Wednesday Morning 'Dawg Bites.

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Here's a quick look at news of note to Bulldog fans as we approach the midpoint of the week:

4 Georgia players named to Coaches All-SEC teams - The Red and Black : Sports
Four University of Georgia football players were named to Coaches All- Southeastern Conference teams, including freshman tailback Nick Chubb (first team), senior inside linebackers Amarlo Herrera and Ramik Wilson and senior cornerback Damian Swann(second team). That's a fairly low number for a team that was within a whisper of playing for the conference title in Atlanta. Only Vandy and Tennessee were shut out of the first team, but Georgia came close. It's tempting to explain this by saying that Georgia "played a lot of young guys", except for the part where that's not entirely true. The UGA offense started 6 juniors/seniors, the defense, 7. A more likely answer is that a lot of players stepped up and played good football, even though they weren't well-known coming into the season. Greg Pyke would have been on my first team ballot, for example.

Scout: Louisville DB Gerod Holliman is 'horrible' - NFL.com
Louisville safety Gerod Holliman is one of three finalists for the Thorpe Award, given to college football's top defensive back, but one NFL scout doesn't see much to get excited about in the Cardinals' ball hawk. It will be interesting to see how Holliman performs against noted non-interception thrower Hutson Mason, who just doesn't make a lot of the downfield tosses that a centerfield-playing safety like Holliman turns into picks.

Georgia Football Recruiting: 5-Star Josh Sweat to Announce Decision Tomorrow | DudeYouCrazy
Unlike the author of this article, I do not believe that Georgia has anything approaching the edge for Sweat. My guess is that he stays home and goes to Virginia Tech. But I do think the 'Dawgs have a good shot for Albert Huggins later this week, which would be a truly huge pickup.

That's it for now. We'll be back later with more Bulldog news, notes, and miscellany. Until then...

Go 'Dawgs!!!
