A quick look at the latest college football rankings, and a look ahead at the upcoming games.

Andy Lyons

Week 11 of the 2014 College Football Season saw a bit of everything from the nation’s elite - comebacks, bouncebacks, statement wins, and disappointing losses all were part of this past weekend’s slate of games.  Let’s recap.

AP Coaches Massey composite
1 Mississippi State Mississippi State Alabama
2 Florida State Florida State Mississippi St
3 Oregon Alabama Auburn
4 Alabama Oregon Ole Miss
5 TCU TCU TCU
6 Baylor Baylor Oregon
7 Arizona State Ohio State Florida State
8 Ohio State Arizona State Baylor

25 Utah Colorado State Duke

Georgia Overview

The Dawgs trounced the Kentucky Wildcats 63-31 in their first game since the Florida debacle.  Quarterback Hutson Mason has by far his best game of the season, throwing four touchdowns while slinging it all around (and down) the field.  Freshman Isaiah McKenzie became the twelfth player in NCAA to return both a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown as well in the victory.

Movers

Fell Out: #16 Oklahoma, #24 West Virginia

Newcomers: #23 Colorado State, #24 Georgia Tech

Overrated

#15 Notre Dame.  The Fighting Irish were run out of Tempe on Saturday, losing to Arizona State 55-31.  They don’t have a quality win yet this season, and they should have fallen more than seven spots.

Underrated

#19 Duke.  There isn’t a clear underrated team this week, so we’ll talk about Duke in this space.  The Blue Devils have a shot an 11-1 regular season and a date with FSU in the ACC title game.  This scenario hasn’t gotten a lot of run, but if Duke somehow knocks off the Seminoles, we are looking at the first college football playoff have the Duke Blue Devils playing for a title.  Crazy.

This Week’s Top 25 Matchups

#18 Clemson at #24 Georgia Tech

#1 Mississippi State at #4 Alabama

#11 Nebraska at #22 Wisconsin

#9 Auburn at #16 Georgia

Upset Alert

Last week, Notre Dame indeed was knocked out of the running for the playoff.  However, Baylor did not trip up in the slightest, keeping their hopes alive.

This week, I’m putting the Utah Utes on upset alert as they travel to Stanford.  It’s been a nice return to the Top 25 for the Utes this season, but it will come to an end this coming weekend.
