Mark Fox's team looks to get their regular season off to a rousing start tonight when they travel to Atlanta to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Say this for the Hoop Hounds, they are not starting the year with a lightweight. Then again, we tried that last year and it worked out really horribly. So maybe this is the way to go. This by the way appears from my limited research to be the earliest in the season these two have met.
The Red and Black are looking to build on the momentum from a 20 win season and in an NIT appearance in 2013 and return the key contributors from that squad. Star guard Kenny Gaines did miss the 65-61 exhibition win over Georgia Southwestern while battling mono, but Coach Fox says they should be able to play him "a little bit." Tech has won 3 in a row in the series, and will be trying to make it four in a row for the first time since 1963-64. In other words, the heyday of Yellow Jacket athletics. The game should be televised on some Fox Sports channels, and is available (at least outside the state of Georgia) on ESPN3. You can also listen along live on the Bulldog radio network.
