Gurley Suspension Moving Heisman And National Title Odds.

Vegas has taken note of Todd Gurley's suspension, taking Gurley off the board of potential Heisman winners and moving Auburn's odds of winning the national title upward.

National Title Odds by Bovada

At Bovada Georgia had been at 8/1 odds to win the national title but in the wake of Gurley's suspension has moved down to 12/1. Auburn on the other hand moved from 6/1 up slightly to 11/2, one assumes based upon the chance that they now may face the Georgia Bulldogs sans Gurley. Alabama's odds also improved slightly, though curiously fellow SEC West competitors Ole Miss and Mississippi State are still sitting at 16/1, despite their strong weekend performances. I would assume that Vegas, like me, believes that the Mississippi schools still have a long way to go to show that they can sustain these results over the course of the season and all the way to Atlanta.

Updated Heisman odds from Bovada

The bigger news however is probably in the Heisman race. Todd Gurley had been the favorite, garnering 8/5 odds of winning college football's top individual honor. However, he has now been taken completely off the board for betting. This is an ominous sign for Georgia fans, because it indicates that despite their wealth of resources when it comes to reading the tea leaves on these issues, even Vegas doesn't really know what's going to happen with Gurley's suspension. Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott is now your favorite, moving from 5/2 odds up to 2/1. He is followed closely by Auburn quarterback and five finger discount aficionado Nick Marshall (5/2).

Another aspect of Todd Gurley's suspension that is worth noting from a wagerer's standpoint is that Gurley was only a 14/1 favorite to win the Heisman preseason. He had actually made a more forceful move up the board then any other candidate, and given the amount of action placed on him Vegas stands to lose a fair chunk if in fact Todd Gurley emerges from the suspension to win the Heisman Trophy. In short, the boys in Vegas may be conflicted, but they probably aren't terribly sad. Until later...
