Since the loss on Saturday to Clemson, much has been made about the cause. Play calling, o-line play, defensive tackling, Aaron Murray's big game yips, fumbled field goal snaps, etc. Since Murray was mentioned, some have wondered how his stats against Top 25 competition compare to the rest of his games. Since I apparently have a fascination with his stats, I present to you a breakdown of his stats against the competition.
First off, a definition of Top 25 Opponents. For my purposes, I defined Top 25 Opponents as those teams which were either ranked at the time of the game or at the end of the season. Some would argue and say that only end of the season rankings should count (or that only time of the game rankings should count). I say both should because there are situations like 2011 Georgia Tech which was ranked at the time. We won, they lost, they dropped out of the Top 25. However, had we lost that game, they would have stayed ranked. On the flip side, we lost to then #25 UCF in 2010. Had we won, they would have dropped out of the Top 25, but they won, so they stayed in it.

So. Obviously, Murray's stats against Top 25 opponents are worse than his overall and non-Top 25 stats. It's a somewhat sizable drop off too. That is to be expected. I don't have his fumble stats for every game because I can't find any place that lists fumbles per game. As a point of reference on Murray's Top 25 stats, his passer rating in those games (140.48) is higher than Joe Cox in 2009 (135.92), Stafford's career (133.3), and Greene's career (138.3). Of course, passer rating isn't everything, but I wondered how they compared using a quick rating as reference.
