The Mark Richt Victory Watch: A big one-two-one

Kevin C. Cox

In a match that was easily the best nationally-televised game of the day, Mark Richt added another chapter to the Dawg Dynasty he's built in Athens as his team downed #6 LSU in front of a raucous Sanford Stadium crowd. As such, it's time for another update to the Mark Richt Victory Watch.

Yesterday evening, Mark Richt tallied his 121st career win, moving him to within 80 victories of tying Vince Dooley for the all-time win record at Georgia. Coach Richt currently boasts a 121-41 record and a .747 winning percentage after 162 games.  At the identical juncture in their careers, Coach Wally Butts was 104-51-7 (.642) following a 39-18 loss to #19 Auburn in 1953, and Vince Dooley was 107-50-5 (.660) following a 24-17 win over #11 LSU (!!) in 1978.

Unlike the way we felt a short 3 years ago, it sure does feel like Coach Richt has an inevitable date with history now...

Go Dawgs!
