SEC Power Poll Week Two: And Now I Just Don't Know What To Think.

It's once again SEC Power Poll time, and I find myself at least as confused as I was last week. The good news is that with some big games coming up (TAMU/Bama, Ole Miss/ Texas) clarity may be on the way. Or not. Either way we'll keep on ranking them and being totally, guffawibly wrong about it. At least that's what I'll be doing. So here goes:

1) Alabama: Didn't play, so I assume they're just as powerful as when they beat Virginia Tech (which wasn't as powerful as they looked in 2012, but that's neither here nor there), only now more rested. That's good with Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M coming up on the schedule.

2) LSU: The Bayou Bengals aren't a perfect football team and Zach Mettenberger isn't a perfect quarterback, but this team has shown enough in opening victories (one over a top 20 foe) that I can't really move them backward. Yet.

3) Texas A&M: We're about to find out exactly how good this team is. I imagine Johnny Manziel with either get to serve a frosty glass of shut the heck up to a lot of doubters, or he'll prove them right. Either way, should be entertaining.

4) Georgia: The defense is still a work in progress, sure. But you'd be hard pressed to find an offense more capable of putting up points in spades. That means the Bulldogs are probably a match for just about everyone at this point.

5) South Carolina: The Gamecocks' 41-30 loss to the Bulldogs was a good bit closer than the final margin would have you believe. I still think the Head Ball Coach has a very good team, one which isn't out of the SEC East race by a long shot. In fact, if the Bulldogs' path to Atlanta the last couple of years is any indication, the bastards have us right where they want us. That being said, watching the Ole Ball Coach helpless on the sideline during that final, crushing drive was a religious experience. Like an Aztec human sacrifice, but with bourbon and pom poms.

6) Ole Miss: And here's where it starts to get a bit murky. I suspect that we'll know a lot more about this Ole Miss team after their upcoming showdown with the Texas Longhorns. That may or may not be a good thing.

7) Florida: As a Bulldog fan, I continue to be pleased with the unfurling majesty of the Will Muschamp era. Florida came down with the same strain of reptilian flu that afflicted them in Jacksonville last year, turning the ball over anywhere and everywhere. I think I speak for the group when I say: it was hilarious.

8) Arkansas: I probably should rank the Razorbacks lower after that 10 point drubbing of Samford. In fact, the Hawgs were trailing the Baptists from Birmingham 21-17 going into the fourth quarter. Fir now I'll simply say that the Razorbacks are on notice that I now realize I may have them a little high.

9) Tennessee: At this point I'm really just glad I don't have to figure out where to slot Western Kentucky. Some fans rival fans may be saying I have the Vols too high. And they may be right. But with Oregon approaching on the schedule, let them have this, guys. Just for one day.

10) Auburn: The Plainsmen have yet to hold a team under 420 yards of total offense or 24 first downs. At 2-0 I sense Gus Malzahn is yet to care about that.

11) Missouri: When you have to pull away in the second half to score a two touchdown victory over Toledo you have some things left to prove.

12) Mississippi State: The fact that I spent 5 minutes seriously considering the relative merits of a 41-7 victory over Miami of Ohio versus a 51-7 victory over Alcorn State tells you why the SEC Power Poll is, at this juncture, like trying to untangle Christmas lights blindfolded.

13) Kentucky: I reflexively placed the Wildcats in the fourteenth slot based upon pure force of habit. Then I considered the fact that Miami of Ohio is a real, live football team which plays in a very real football conference. I think I should probably reward that, but not too highly. I mean, it's not like they beat Alcorn State.

14) Vanderbilt: Frankly, I have just as much trouble processing Vandy's win over Austin Peay as I did Tennessee's. Perhaps Vandy deserves to be #13, maybe #12. But at this point we're bickering about the relative merits of Gigli versus Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3.
