It's no secret that the Georgia Bulldogs need more linemen for the class of 2014. This evening they took a step in the right direction when Milton Marist (h/t fotodog) standout Kendall Baker selected the Bulldogs.
The 6'6, 275 pounder also had offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Boston College, Clemson, FSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee among others. He's rated a 3 star prospect by 247 Sports, while Rivals rates him 4 stars and ranks him the 15th best player in Georgia for the class of 2014. I'll be back later this week with a film breakdown of the young man's junior highlights, but for now I can say that Baker has a great frame to add weight and already has above average mobility for his size. He was recruited by Coach Chris Wilson primarily to play defensive line, but said during the live broadcast of his commitment on Fox 5 Atlanta that he'd be open to playing on offense as well.
Baker is also, like recent linebacker commit Detric Duke, a good friend of Bulldog defensive line target and national top 100 player Elisha Shaw. I don't know that getting Baker helps us that much with Shaw, who I think will likely make his own decision from among the 'Dawgs, Alabama and Ole Miss. But Baker is a talented big man in his own right, and he has a lot of upside. What's more, he's a guy who's made clear that he wanted to be a Bulldog, and takes pride in the chance to represent his home state school. We can always use dogs who want to be 'Dawgs. Welcome aboard, Kendall, and . . .
Go 'Dawgs!!!
