John Isner suffers injury, withdraws from Wimbledon

Clive Brunskill

There's really not much to say here besides the title. John Isner had his normally deep Wimbledon run cut off early this year.

In today's second round match with Adrian Mannarino of France, Isner was forced to withdraw at 1-1 in the first set due to a knee injury. The 6'9 Greensboro, NC native has struggled with knee issues all year, and told the Associated Press, "It didn't pop. It just grabbed, like, really badly, and I knew I was in serious trouble then. I mean, I knew at that point it was not likely I was going to be able to play."

Isner was one of several big name players to go down in what is being called "Black Wednesday". Let's hope his injury isn't as severe as his quote makes it seem.
