Andy Landers' Lady Dawgs had a great tournament run, falling in overtime of an Elite Eight showdown with Cal. Now three of the players who keyed that run will have the opportunity to continue playing.
Leading scorer and rebounder Jasmine Hassell was selected 21st overall by the Indiana Fever. The 6'2 Hassell averaged 12.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game from her forward position. The Seattle Storm then selected Hassell's fellow Jasmine, guard Jasmine James, 30th overall. Nate Parham over at SB Nation's Swish Appeal thinks the pick makes sense, which let's be honest, can't be said for very many picks in any professional sports draft. Finally, combo guard/forward Anne Marie Armstrong was drafted 31st overall by her hometown Atlanta Dream.
Hassell, James, and Armstrong were three of six seniors on 2012-13's veteran squad who will be sorely missed. While I hope that players like rising junior guard Khaalidah Miller (7.6 ppg in 2012-13) can pick up the slack, it will certainly be a tall order. But that's a problem for another day. For now, those of us here at Dawg Sports want to congratulate these ladies and their families on completing one journey and beginning an exciting new one. Until later . . .
