Ah, January 1st. These games are the gems of the bowl season, and, as usual, they're being played by name-brand teams. Of course, we're playing on New Year's Day, but we won't be predicting that game in this post. Instead, we'll tell you what's going to happen in the others so that you can focus all your attention on cheering our boys onto the first win of 2014.
Capital One Bowl (January 1, 1:00 p.m.)
No. 19 Wisconsin (-1.5) v. No. 9 South Carolina
This is South Carolina's second trip to the Capital One Bowl (ever). Last time they handily beat a Nebraska team that had gone 9-3 in its first season in the Big Integer. This year they're facing a Wisconsin team that... went 9-3 as a long-time member of the Big Integer. I'm guessing that history repeats itself and Cocky pulls the upset.
Outback Bowl (January 1, 1:00 p.m.)
Iowa v. No. 16 LSU (-7.5)
Since 2005, the SEC is 13-8 against the Big Integer in bowl games. LSU will continue our conference's dominance by beating the ever-living hell out of Iowa in the Outback Bowl.
Rose Bowl (January 1, 5:00 p.m.)
No. 5 Stanford (-5.5) v. No. 4 Michigan State
The Cardinal were slight favorite to win this game before the Spartans suspended their best defensive player for an unspecified violation of team rules. Since then, the line has jumped from 1.5 to 5.5 in favor of Stanford. That still seems low to me. If the Cardinal can shut down Oregon, they can shut down Michigan State. Stanford covers.
Go Dawgs!
