The Saturday Basket/Bowl Open Comment Thread.

It's a basketball thread. It's a bowl thread. It's both.

Kevin C. Cox

After some technical difficulties the past couple of days I'm pleased to report that the hamster wheels of progress are once again turning here at Dawg Sports. Let's celebrate by watching your Georgia Bulldog basketball team, winners of 4 straight, as they take on the Western Carolina Catamounts this afternoon at 2 p.m. The Lady Dawgs take on Rutgers in the Garden State at the same time. I don't believe either game is on television, but the mens' game is allegedly available on ESPN's WatchESPN site if you have access to that.

Of course this is also the first day of college bowl season. If you haven't checked it out, Spears has already previewed all of the . . .compelling? . . . match ups. Bear in mind that the next couple of weeks are your last chance to drink in the nourishment of college football for a solid seven months, so enjoy it while you can.

The Gildan New Mexico Bowl between Colorado State and Washington State kicks off at 2 p.m. on ESPN. For my part, I'll be rooting for the crowd from Pullman because Mike Leach's continued zany success is good business for us sports bloggers, and our SB Nation colleagues at Coug Center are literally like children on Christmas morning, God bless them. That's followed on the Worldwide Leader by the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl between Louisiana-Lafayette and Tulane, then the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl matching Buffalo and San Diego State. At 3:30 on ABC the Las Vegas Bowl will pair Fresno State and USC, who with offensive coordinator Clay Helton at the helm will play for their third different head coach this season. I'd expect the Bulldogs to come out a lot more motivated than the Trojans, which let's face it during bowl season is about 80% of the battle.

So kick back, down some egg nog, and share the glad tidings with your fellow Dawg fans. Until later . . .

Go 'Dawgs!!!
