The Mark Richt Victory Watch: Number 122.

It wasn't easy, it wasn't cheap, but somehow your Georgia Bulldogs pulled out a victory in Knoxville, so that Aaron Murray will complete his career as the only Bulldog signal caller to complete his tenure in the Classic City with a 4-0 record against the Tennessee Volunteers. Thus, it once again falls to me to take up the mantle of T. Kyle King, Dawg Sports Editor Emeritus, legendary man about town, and founding member of the Faulkner Society of Twiggs County, in updating the Mark Richt Victory Watch.

This evening, Mark Richt tallied his 122nd career win, bringing him to within 79 victories of tying Vince Dooley for the all-time win record at Georgia, and 18 shy of tying Coach Wally Butts for second place. After 163 games as the Bulldogs’ head coach, Mark Richt boasts a 122-41 record and a .748 winning percentage. At the identical juncture in their respective tenures, Wally Butts stood at 104-52-7 following a 21-7 loss at Mississippi Southern (now Southern Miss), while Vince Dooley boasted a 108-50-5 ledger following a 31-10 home victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores. Coach Butts boasted a winning percentage of .638 and Coach Dooley stood at .663 for their respective careers after the same number of games, placing each of them well behind Coach Richt's pace.

Now Coach Richt will lead his charges into battle against an undefeated Missouri Tiger team which has shown a propensity for scoring tons of points. If he and his staff manage to devise a winning gameplan for this one, they will have earned their pay.But for now, the Dawgs remain undefeated in SEC play, and their chances for a conference and perhaps even national championship remain alive.
