Thursday Night College Football Open Comment Thread

Butch Dill

Real life intervened with a vengeance this week, preventing me from posting a Thursday Cocktail this afternoon. I would be worried that I had somehow jinxed the Classic City Canines for this weekend, but for two things. One, about the only way we could get more jinxed would be for Aaron Murray to get kidnapped by separatist rebels from the breakaway republic of Pike County (henceforth to be known as "Zebulonistan"). Two, the Georgia Bulldogs are not playing this Saturday.

They have that in common with the Kentucky Wildcats and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Those two play something approximating SEC football tonight at 7:30 on ESPN. There are a couple of interesting story lines here. One is the continuing disillusionment with Dan Mullen by Mississippi State fans.Hugh Freeze is suddenly the toast of the town following a big upset win over LSU. Bizarro Bulldog fans are beginning to wonder why it seems that their team has been passed by the newest SEC coach in the Magnolia State.

Another is the question of whether Mark Stoops' Wildcats can finally get an SEC win. They followed a close 35-28 loss to Florida with a 48-7 thrashing at the hands of Alabama in which they couldn't take advantage of early Crimson Tide turnovers. Now coming off a bye week, it would be a very opportune time for the gang from Lexington to show some signs of life. And with the possible exception of a Georgia Bulldog team which may be playing members of the debate and equestrian squads by the time they meet the Wildcats on November 23, this may be the best remaining shot at an upset.

So join us for a Thursday night of football that doesn't involve the ACC, AAC, or MAC. It's SEC football on a week night. You gotta watch that. Until later . . .

Go 'Dawgs!!!
