The Mark Richt Victory Watch

It was touch-and-go for a while, but the Georgia Bulldogs got the job done against the Tennessee Volunteers, improving Mark Richt's all-time record to 111-38 and making it time to update the Mark Richt Victory Watch.

Though offensive and special teams breakdowns made the game close in the first half, and though defensive breakdowns kept the game close in the second half, the Georgia Bulldogs managed to notch their fourth win over the Tennessee Volunteers in their last five tries on Saturday, permitting me the opportunity to update the Mark Richt Victory Watch.

The Mark Richt Victory Watch now stands at 111, just 90 wins shy of tying Vince Dooley’s school record of 201. Coach Richt has the most wins (111), the fewest losses (38), and the best winning percentage (.745) of any coach in Red and Black history after 149 games.

At the identical juncture, Wally Butts was 98-44-7 (.681) after a 1952 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in Birmingham, while Vince Dooley was 100-44-5 (.688) following a 1977 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks in a night game in Columbia. Here’s hoping Coach Richt adds to his victory tally next Saturday under similar circumstances.
