A Musical Journey Through Georgia's 2012 Football Schedule: Part I

There are 80 days until the Georgia Bulldogs take the field against the Buffalo Bills Bulls to kick off the 2012 campaign. I don't know about you, but to me that seems like an ungodly amount of time. To be honest, I'm starting to go a little bit stir crazy just thinking about it.

So a thought occurred to me the other night. What if we took a few minutes every couple of weeks to sit back, crack open our favorite whiskey/beer/frou-frou cocktail, and enjoy some tuneage? Better yet, what if every song we enjoyed came from or was in some way related to each opponent the Bulldogs will face next season? And with that, the Musical Journey series was born.

Before we begin, I'd like to stress that these are simply my musical selections for the opponents on the schedule. They are not meant to serve as a comprehensive overview of the musical talent to originate at each institution and shouldn't be considered the "best of the best" (although in most cases they are my favorites). In some cases, as you will soon come to see, certain bands were selected because there were no other options. With all that said, in Part I we'll cover the first three weeks of the 2012 season.

So break out the cooler and lets get started...

September 1, 2012: Buffalo Bulls @ Georgia Bulldogs

moe. - Timmy Tucker

If you want to go a little more old school, feel free to enjoy some Spyro Gyra (Saxophonist Jay Beckenstein is an alum) or Dio (RJD attended in the early 60's -- he wanted to become a pharmacist apparently) here and here. Otherwise, lets skip ahead to something I can actually tolerate. They're no Widespread Panic, but Buffalo's moe. saw heavy rotation during my college years. Then again, I was going through sort of a filthy hippie phase.... but that's neither here nor there. Enjoy!

September 8, 2012: Georgia Bulldogs @ Missouri Tigers

Jon Hamm - The Curse/Sergio

I could have taken the easy route and given you some mid-90's Sheryl Crow (also a Mizzou alum), but you could just as easily tune into your local Adult Contemporary radio station and get that along with a trip down memory lane courtesy of K-Ci & JoJo. Instead, I give you Mizzou grad and damn fine saxophonist, Jon Hamm:

If you prefer the more traditional/less awesome option, here you go.

September 15, 2012: Florida Atlantic Owls @ Georgia Bulldogs

Dashboard Confessional - Again I Go Unnoticed

Chris Carabba of Dashboard Confessional attended Florida Atlantic University and studied Special Education. He went on to play guitar unnecessarily hard for his musical style and sing like he had a really painful hemorrhoid. This is your chance Dawg Sports: Channel your inner 13-year-old girl, slap on some black eyeliner, and slit your wrists... the FAU Owls are coming to town!!!

Plus, now you can cry yourself to sleep in two languages thanks to the helpful Spanish translation at the bottom of the screen!

That's it for now. Please feel free to share your thoughts on the musical selections in the comments. Furthermore, share any alternate selections you may be kicking around in your head (whether or not they are related to Georgia's upcoming opponents).

Join us again in a couple of weeks when we'll be perusing the sweet jams emanating from Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and South Carolina (oh yes, there will be Hootie). Until then...

GO DAWGS!!!
