In Alpharetta at the 25th anniversary SELC Tournament, the bearded and excited Georgia men’s lacrosse team took on the Florida club squad in a Friday night quarterfinal rematch of the Bulldogs’ 14-3 regular-season victory over the Gators in February. The score was closer this time, but the Red and Black advanced to the next round of the conference tourney.
Georgia had taken a 5-3 lead with four minutes remaining in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs had increased their edge to 7-3 by halftime. After intermission, the scoring was even at four goals per side, producing the 11-7 final margin that gave the Classic City Canines their 13th triumph of the season, and their second over the Sunshine State Saurians, whom they outscored by a combined 25-10 tally.
The Red and Black will face the winner of the Alabama-Florida State game in tomorrow night’s semifinal at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. At last report, the Seminoles led the Crimson Tide, 19-6, after three quarters.
