The NCAA women’s gymnastics championship schedule has been announced, and the news is not good.
The fifth-ranked Gym Dogs will be competing in the second session against No. 1 Florida, No. 4 Alabama, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 9 Oregon State, and No. 12 Ohio State. The Crimson Tide and the Gators accounted for four of Georgia’s five losses this season, as the Red and Black lost regular-season meetings at Alabama and at Florida before finishing behind them both at the SEC Championships.
The first session, set to start at noon on April 20 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center, features No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 3 UCLA, No. 6 Nebraska, No. 7 Utah, No. 10 Stanford, and No. 11 LSU. The top three finishers from the first session will advance to the Super Six, along with the three highest-scoring squads from the 6:00 p.m. second session.
There will be little margin for error as the Gym Dogs take on their two top gymnastics nemeses, longstanding archrival Alabama and top-ranked nouveau riche program Florida. The silver lining is that the two teams with whom Georgia likely will be jockeying for that crucial third-place finish are Arkansas and Oregon State, both of whom the Red and Black have beaten this season.
