Weather forces the Women's Golf Dawgs into sixth-place finish...poor shooting also to blame.

The Women's Golf Team competed in the Horton Hear's a Hootie Invitational* this past weekend, but fell way short of their No. 9 ranking, finishing sixth overall after 36 holes of play. The last 18 holes of the contest were canceled after weather shortened play on Saturday, and since college has this thing called "classes," teams had to travel back to their respective homes on Sunday after Saturday's holes were made up.

Marta Silva Zamora continued her great play, finishing tied for fourth at 142 overall. She shot 71 on Friday and Saturday. Emilie Burger finished in the top 20 again, this time tied for 20th, and continues to play good golf, but has yet to play on the level that Marta Silva Zamora is at. The rest of the team didn't fare so well, shooting in the high 70s over two day tourney, and no one finishing higher than 38th.

In other news: do any of you remember a couple of weeks ago when Alabama's Men's Golf team went on a tear and beat the brakes off of anyone dumb enough to play with them at the Puerto Rico Classic? Well, that was the case with this event as well. Alabama won by 11 strokes over second place finisher North Carolina. On the bright side, even though the Dawgs finished sixth, it was still in the top half of the 15-team field.

The Women's Golf Dawgs have two weeks to work out the kinks before they walk the course again at the SunTrust Gator Invitational at UF's Mark Bostic Golf Course. They'll have their work cut out for them, as they have to carry a junkyard full of Camaro's on 13 and putt through a windmill on 18**.
