For those of you who don't know, the Georgia Bulldogs swimming and diving team has been competing in the SEC tournament for the past four days. The University of Georgia has quite a tradition with S&D, and head coach Jack Bauerle has served as the swim coach for the U.S. team in the Olympics. The Georgia Women's Swimming & Diving team won the SEC tournament for the third straight year, scoring a total of 781 points over the four day meet. The Men's S&D team finished third in the tournament, which is promising, given the young talent on the current roster.
Wendy Trott, Michelle McKeehan, Nic Fink, and Martin Grodzki all placed first in their respective events, in addition to Nic Fink and Amber McDermott being named SEC Freshmen of the Year.
Seriously, folks, this is quite an accomplishment for the members of the University of Georgia Swimming & Diving Team, and the fact that we are able to witness a coach as successful as Jack Bauerle is a privilege. We may bemoan the fact that our football team hasn't won a national championship since 1980, but on the other hand, we've been able to witness incredible coaches like Bauerle, Yoculan, and Diaz in non-revenue sports with continued success.
