In the opening outing of the CBE Classic, the Georgia Bulldogs poured in nearly half their shots from the field (22 of 45) to register a 63-54 win over the Bowling Green Falcons in Stegeman Coliseum. The Red and Black made it to the line 24 times, draining 16 free throws, and turned 18 BGSU turnovers into 22 points.
The Bulldogs held a healthy lead in points in the paint (32-18), but the Falcons dominated the boards, finishing with a 38-26 rebound advantage. Of course, Bowling Green failed to block a Bulldog shot, so not a lot of second chances were needed.
Gerald Robinson contributed 15 points, six assists, five rebounds, and a steal, while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 11 points, six boards, an assist, and a block in his 26 minutes of playing time.
The South Dakota St. Jackrabbits will visit Athens on Wednesday evening, after which Mark Fox’s club will embark on a four-game road swing beginning in Kansas City, Mo.
