I don't know how I missed it, but Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner Herald had a nice column on incoming freshman tight end Arthur Lynch on Friday.
As Weiszer notes, many are looking to the 6'5, 260 pound Lynch to be the "blocking" tight end, especially now that Bruce Figgins is out for 6 games with a sprained cerebrum.
But here's something a lot of people aren't talking about. Lynch is actually also a very good receiving threat. During his senior season he caught 16 passes for 249 yards and 3 touchdowns. And he may have had the best hands of any tight end at the Under Armour All-America game. By way of further example, take a look at the catch at the 3:57 mark of this video (which also features Lynch making some solid plays at defensive end).
I'm not saying the guy is Antonio Gates. But I do know that we currently have four scholarship wide receivers, and that Orson Charles will likely be in the mix outside along with fellow signees Marlon Brown and Rantavious Wooten. So Lynch, almost of necessity, will have to play some significant snaps at tight end. He's a big target who should mae things easier on our new starting quarterback.
