My thanks go out to our good friends over at Black Heart Gold Pants for an e-mail alert calling my attention to the fact that eight Georgia Southern players were suspended for the Eagles’ season opener against Georgia.
As usually is the case when the suspensions are not preceded by a publicized incident (such as an arrest) covered by the local press, the reason given was "a violation of team rules." Your guess is as good as mine.
Two of the suspended players, Terrione Benefield and Ronnie Wiggins, were projected to start in Sanford Stadium.
In all likelihood, this changes nothing, as the Bulldogs’ greater depth ought to have been a decisive advantage anyway, but my need to see a beatdown next Saturday just got ratcheted up a notch.
Go ‘Dawgs!
