Couple of things kicking around on the recruiting front. One of course is the commitment of Bainbridge quarterback/safety Nick Williams. The 6'3 205 pounder wowed everyone at UGA's camp this summer, and was also being pursued by Alabama and South Carolina.
Williams has the size of a Thomas Davis, though from the film I've seen (which isn't very much), I'm not sure about the speed. I do know that he could move up to the linebacker spot because he's got some room to grow. An interesting note on Williams' commitment comes from Scout, which reports that one of the people tasked with getting Williams to commit was Seminole County safety Bacarri Rambo, whom some thought was not a solid UGA commit at all. Perhaps this will quell some of those fears.
As we head into the meat of football season, it's easy to forget that basketball is only a little over a month away. Coach Felton this week got some help for 2008 in the form of Weston, Florida power forward Drazen Zlovaric. The 6'8 Zlovaric was also heavily recruited by Texas and Arkansas, and averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds last year as a junior.
It's good to see Coach Felton going up against a coach like Rick Barnes and getting the nod. Zlovaric joins fellow forward Howard Thompkins and North Cobb Christian point guard Dustin Ware in the class of 2008, and probably got the last scholarship available. Zlovaric is apparently an athletic big man who can play facing the basket now, and might even be able to move inside once he fills out a little bit.
On a nonrecruiting note, I thought it might be fun to play a little game of "over/under", a favorite of the radio personalities at the Worldwide Leader. The gist is that I give you a number, and you tell me whether you think the actual outcome will be over or under that number. Hence the name "Over/Under". It's complicated, but if Mark May and Sean Salisbury can handle it, I think you can figure it out too. So, over or under?
a) Matt Stafford throws 3.9 touchdown passes versus Western Carolina.
b) Knowshown Moreno gets 14.9 carries.
c) Shaun Chapas gets 9.9 carries.
d) WCU scores 9.9 points.
e) Georgia scores 41.9 points.
f) Blake Barnes is on the field for 6.9 offensive snaps.
g) Caleb King is on the field for .9 snaps.
My guesses are: a) under, b) over, c) under, d) over, e) under, f) over and g) under. But I could be persuaded otherwise. Have fun in Athens, and if you see me, say hi. I'll be the paunchy guy wearing red. You can't miss me. Until later . . .
Go Dawgs!
