On the second day of the N.C.A.A. East Regional Championships, a pair of Bulldogs set new school records in the steeplechase event for the Georgia track and field team.
Sam Gillespie and Sarah Madebach eclipsed the previous Red and Black records in the competition held in Gainesville, Fla. Two weeks ago, Madebach claimed an S.E.C. title in the women's steeplechase.
Also among the Bulldogs' distaff participants was Jennifer Dahlgren, the holder of numerous records in the hammer throw. En route to claiming a second consecutive regional championship in the event, Dahlgren hurled a hammer 222 feet and five inches---that's nearly three-fourths of a football field, folks---and outdistanced the runner-up by nearly 24 feet.
The Bulldog men finished the meet with 33.33 points to claim a fourth-place finish and make a George Harrison reference inevitable.
The N.C.A.A. Outdoor Championships, which are scheduled to begin in Sacramento, Calif., on June 6, will host the top five finishers in each individual event. Seven Bulldogs automatically qualified for the meet, in addition to two Georgia men's relay teams.
Despite the fact that the Bulldogs held an early lead on Friday, the meet ended with the Georgia men in fourth place and the Georgia women tied for seventh place.
