Women's Tennis and Men's Golf Teams Keep Title Hopes Alive

While the Diamond Dogs were busy beating seventh-ranked South Carolina on the road, a couple of Georgia sports teams with national championship aspirations were competing in N.C.A.A. tournament action on Friday.

The Red and Black women's tennis team ran its record to 24-1 and justified its No. 2 ranking with a 4-1 victory over William & Mary to advance to the quarterfinals for the eighth time in nine years. Georgia will face California in the next round.

The Bulldog men's golf team, ranked No. 1 and holding the top seed in the N.C.A.A. East Regional, moved into first place at the Golf Club of Georgia. The Classic City Canines' cumulative 574 score gives them a one-stroke advantage over Florida and a three-shot edge over Auburn.

Could Georgia be on the verge of a national championship three-peat over the hated Gators? Stay tuned. . . .
