"Super Six" Set for N.C.A.A. Gymnastics Championships

Friday night's Super Six field for the N.C.A.A. gymnastics finals has been set. In addition to early session entrants Georgia, Florida, and Nebraska, the remaining contenders for national honors are Stanford, U.C.L.A., and Utah.

The order of finish in the second session in Salt Lake City was: Utah (197.325), Stanford (197.2), U.C.L.A. (196.475), Louisiana State (196.275), Denver (195.575), and Michigan (195.1). Late in the evening on Confederate Memorial Day, the Bayou Bengals fell two-tenths of a point short of becoming the third Southeastern Conference squad to qualify for one of the six spots in the final round.

In addition to the teams the Gym Dogs faced in Thursday afternoon's preliminary session and in the S.E.C. tournament, Georgia has squared off with Florida, Stanford, U.C.L.A., and Utah during the 2007 regular season. A first-place finish on Friday night would allow the Red and Black to avenge both of their losses during the campaign.

By the way, if you're interested in going to next year's N.C.A.A. Gymnastics Championships, which are slated to be held in Stegeman Coliseum starting on April 24, 2008, tickets go on sale beginning this Sunday. Here's hoping that, a year from now, the Gym Dogs will be going for their fourth straight national title.
