This Is Why I Need Not to Visit Rival Sites When I Have Insomnia

Auburn fans want to beat Mark Richt because he is the head coach at Georgia, and for some unknown reason, Georgia fans think Auburn is their biggest rival and vice versa, despite no provocation.

Meanwhile, Nick Fairley just turned a hose on the visitors' section of Jordan-Hare Stadium to commemorate 120 years of a nearly annual rivalry. Go 'Dawgs!

At least at this point in time, a nine-game football schedule has little support among the membership for myriad reasons, with the ADs at Georgia and Tennessee being the lone known exceptions.

In Nashville today, seven hours of meetings produced no decision by the SEC athletic directors on an eight- or nine-game league schedule for 2013, but Greg McGarity appears open to the idea, in order to preserve the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry. Go 'Dawgs!

Barrett Trotter has decided to forgo his senior season at Auburn, keep his bachelor's degree and continue pursuit on his Master's. "My four years at Auburn has been a great experience and I'm thankful for the opportunities that I've had, however, I have decided to forgo my senior season," Trotter said in a statement. "I'm truly blessed to have been a part of winning seasons and championships during my time at Auburn."

Auburn quarterback Barrett Trotter is retiring from football. He has a baccalaureate degree from Auburn. He is pursuing a master's degree at Auburn. He thinks his "four years at Auburn has been a great experience." Alabama Polytechnic Institute subject-verb agreement FTL! Go 'Dawgs!

[W]hat you don’t understand is that TKK simply exists on a plane of existence superior to you or I mere mortals. As wise as Aristotle, he….sitting astride the mighty white stallion of his own (relative) ethics…a vigilant sage, perpetually on guard…whether it requires defending the honor of his own pure, noble-intentioned group of gentlemen-scholars-athletes-minor saints (bedecked in the black and red, natch)….or whether it requires his own scathing, damning judgment, cast down from on high against lesser institutions in lesser states with lesser people constituting their lesser fanbase (emphasis on "base" says he!) Perhaps some day you shall see. Now as penance for badmouthing the work of noble, illustrious T. Kyle King (that local deity of all things black and red, and subsequently all things right in this world or possibly even the next), please go re-read his impassioned plea for Auburn to suffer the Death Penalty. For so he has wished, and so he has willed it. So, yeah. I can only imagine that smug [insert expletive of choice here] has had a mural of The School of Athens reproduced on the wall of his study, with himself in place of Plato. He’s bordering on Bond-villain levels of hubris over there…it’s just a wonder he hasn’t given himself an aneurysm from being SO damned concerned about Auburn.

Finally, someone from a rival fan base understands me, even if he does have our color scheme reversed! (Hat tip: War Eagle Atlanta.) Go 'Dawgs!

Happy Birthday #auburn Feb 1, 1856 East Alabama Male College was chartered. 155 years strong

Today is the anniversary of the day what is now Auburn University was chartered. Just five days ago, the University of Georgia celebrated the 226th anniversary of its chartering, so a mere 155 years makes Auburn a newcomer to higher education in my book. (Georgia celebrated its 155th anniversary in 1940.) Still, today is the birthday of our oldest rival, so we should commemorate it in the spirit of the occasion by saying, "I hate the East Alabama Male College." Go 'Dawgs!
