Since the last National Championship Game for Auburn was 1957 (and I was born in 1965) it is fair to say that this is a once in a life-time opportunity. Without Cam Newton (or Nick Saban as our coach) it is hard to imagine this ever happening again.

An attorney and Auburn fan requests that a trial be scheduled so as not to conflict with the national championship game. (Hat tip: Scott Key.) This is, of course, a perfectly reasonable request, but could the guy have done a little research before filing his request? "[T]he last National Championship Game for Auburn was 1957"? Really? There wasn't a game with the "national championship game" designation in 1957, and, if there had been, Auburn wouldn't have been in it, because the Plainsmen were on probation and were banned from postseason play. At least he's realistic about the prospects for a repeat, though. Go 'Dawgs!

3. Mark Richt Richt has had one bad season in nearly a decade at Georgia. The Bulldogs continue to collect talent — nearly 20 players have been good enough to leave early for the NFL this decade. That said, Richt had better have a good season in 2010. As the dean of SEC coaches, he’s becoming stale in Athens and fans are starting to wonder if someone else might be able to do a Saban-like number on Georgia. (The fear should be that someone might do a Kiffin-like number on Georgia.) If Todd Grantham is the answer at defensive coordinator, the Bulldogs could return to previous form. Mr. SEC says Mark Richt is the league's third-best coach, behind only Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. (Hat tip: Leather Helmet Blog.) In the what-have-you-done-for-me-lately world of the Southeastern Conference, though, third place doesn't come without a few criticisms.

I’ve got a great deal of respect for Coach Richt and the job he has done there and the University of Georgia will also have a special place in my heart. Not only did I play there, but my wife played basketball there and we have a lot of friends at UGA. At the end of the day, I just feel like this is where I am supposed to be and this is a special time to be at the University of Alabama.

Straight from the horse's mouth. (I don't know what it is with me today . . . equine metaphors, Bill Murray quotations, bad grammar. I'm all out of sorts.)

Kirby is going to be staying here at the University of Alabama with us.

From the mouth of Nick Saban. Well, crap. (Hat tip: bammer.) This is what I get for writing the "welcome home" posting before the announcement!

Mark "suntan" Richt is going after Kirby Smart to save his own job ,the bulldogs need a shot in the arm , and Georgia had better get a shot of something and quick, unless it wants to roam around in mediocre land with the likes of the Kentucky 's and the Mississippi's of the world for the next couple decades. So Mark and the powers that be in Athens are trying to get a Saban type defense by offering probably close to a million bucks to Smart . I think he'll take it, the money is too much and maybe even the coach in waiting bait , you know the bird in the hand, two in the bush stuff. But if he believed in his self and stayed at Alabama making a comfortable 400 grand a year, he could get a head coaching job in the neighborhood of 2, or 3 million dollars in a couple years, ( probably the Ga job ) anyway it is his wagon let him pull it. even if he gets Smart ( lol ) Mark is on life support , two more 7 and 5 years will do him in.

While Alabama fans mostly are a classy lot, some live up to the stereotypes when explaining why the rest of the SEC will be playing second fiddle to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide until the end of time. Sadly, the piece contains no comparison between Nick Saban's ten-win seasons and Mark Richt's.
