Florida, Florida State, and South Carolina are among the four teams that have advanced to the College World Series in Omaha. The Diamond Dogs faced all three clubs during their dismal regular season. Vanderbilt eliminated Louisville. Florida State eliminated Vanderbilt. South Carolina eliminated Coastal Carolina. That means Derek Johnson's, Drew Thomas's, and Roger Williams's offseasons are underway. You know, just in case David Perno has some calls he's like to make. Virginia will play a decisive game three tomorrow, after which Karl Kuhn's season may be over, as well. If the Cavaliers are eliminated on Monday, there no longer will be any reason for Coach Perno to tarry in making the necessary offseason moves. Go 'Dawgs!

What this means for the Diamond Dogs is that Roger Williams's offseason has now begun, but Derek Johnson will remain unavailable for at least one more round. You know, just in case David Perno has a call he'd like to make. No. 1 regional seeds Coastal Carolina and Virginia both advanced, as well, to face fellow No. 1 regional seeds in the super regionals, by the way. Go 'Dawgs!

Freshman defensive tackle Derek Johnson has reportedly left the team to return home to Hoxie, Arkansas. The team expects Johnson to return by August 8, when fall practice starts. After reports of Johnson feeling homesick, the expected contributor returned home for personal reasons that are not currently being disclosed. Johnson had reportedly impressed teammates with his physical strength. Update: Chip Brown is now reporting ($) that Michael Wilcoxon is leaving the team as well, though it looks like his absence will be permanent and based on a perceived lack of playing time. Muschamp must be ready to throw Howell and Johnson (if he does end up returning) into the fire as freshmen.
