Very nice major league debut for Justin Grimm. 6 innings, 6 hits allowed, 7 Ks, no walks, 3 runs (including a solo home run). Per Joey Matches, he's just the 11th pitcher to strike out at least seven and walk no one in his major league debut. He's also just the third Ranger pitcher to strike out at least seven in his major league debut (Don Stanhouse, Paul Mirabella, and David Clyde are the others). He showed a swing-and-miss breaking ball, commanded his fastball well, and showed good composure on the mound. The Astros hit him hard from time to time -- aside from the home run, he also allowed three doubles -- but he continued to battle and throw strikes, and ended up doing better in his first major league appearance than any of us likely expected he would.
Last time a Big Ten team went to the CWS was Michigan in 1984.
The Board also will be asked to approve improvements to Foley Field.
"We’re not going to build a brand new facility," McGarity said. "We don’t have that necessity at this point. A few upgrades will be discussed tomorrow."
There has been talk in past board meetings about making some code corrections to the press box and improvements to the right field area known as Kudzu Hill.
The current baseball stadium was built in 1990 around the existing field. As UGA outlined in its master plan three years ago: "The stadium has become outdated over the years. The updates to the stadium have not responded to new facilities at rival institutions, therefore if is no longer near the top of the list of both national and conference baseball facilities. The press box is undersized and the stadium needs to be brought up to current codes."
ON THE BUBBLE (IN): Georgia, Auburn, Mississippi, Mississippi State . . .
Auburn and Georgia have strong enough RPIs and enough quality wins that both should be fine if they can finish above .500 overall. Both teams enter this weekend at 25-23 and need to make hay against Tennessee (Auburn's final regular-season opponent) and Kentucky (which Georgia plays this week).
NCAA Division I baseball statistics indicate increasing offensive performance, particularly in home runs and runs scored, and the Committee believes this is due, in large part, to the kind of bats in use today.
I cannot live in a world where Univ of South Carolina wins a National Championship in ANYTHING. Go Bruins!! Let the Chicken Curse live!
Toy Story 3. What a great night cap
We realized we didn’t have any seniors early. We’ve all stepped up, and found our role within the team, and everyone has come together to become one unit. We don’t really focus on not having seniors. We just work with what we have, and I think we have a great group of girls who are very talented. Each person has their role, and does it very well.
Wow these last two games have been great for our team. We are finally playing like we are capable.
@dawgsports we are getting some good things going. Next year is a new season with all the same guys. Things will turn
