Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin was a Steve Addazio hire. The two worked together at Syracuse, and Austin said Addazio called him a few days before National Signing Day to gauge his interest in the job in case it came open. This means Meyer and Addazio knew George Edwards might be planning to skip town before signing day.

Senator Blutarsky, quoting the Miami Herald. Now, that's just crazy talk!

Act Like Your Mama Raised You Right: Bacarri Rambo, Da'Rick Rogers, Facebook, Twitter, and the Loss of Sportsmanship

The recent exchange between the Georgia Bulldogs' Bacarri Rambo and the Tennessee Volunteers' Da'Rick Rogers on Facebook and Twitter illustrates the ways in which we are allowing the internet to make us less sportsmanlike and less civil. Dawg Sports says it is time for this downward trend to stop.

Monday Night Dawg Bites: Who Dat Say Saints Make Him Wanna Puke? Edition

Now that the Super Bowl is over, the offseason truly is upon us. How will the blogosphere cope? Dawg Sports looks at the Clemson Tigers' renewal of rivalries, a Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fan's amusing take on Lonnie Outlaw, and the ways in which the New Orleans Saints make T. Kyle King want to puke.

Mark Richt Rounds Out Georgia Bulldogs' Defensive Staff by Hiring Warren Belin

After a disappointing national signing day, Mark Richt hired away the Vanderbilt Commodores' recruiting coordinator, Warren Belin, to coach the Georgia Bulldogs' linebackers. This hire, like those of Todd Grantham and Scott Lakatos, was light on sizzle but strong on steak.

It's believed an agreement with Edwards has been in place for awhile. The announcement of his hiring came a day after the college signing day for high school recruits.

Georgia didn't end up impressing to the degree Bulldog fans wanted to. UGA lost out on some highly touted recruits, some to other SEC schools like Da'Rick Rogers to Tennessee. The final ranking was not as high as most wanted either, but there's a good reason for that. Georgia signed just 19 players, and a larger class with the same proportion of star ratings as those 19 would have resulted in a much higher ranking. On an average star basis, Mark Richt made out better than a lot of the teams ranked above him, so while it wasn't a blowout day, it wasn't a failure either.

One more point about Da’Rick. You hear a lot of whispers about what really went into his defection and off-field concerns about him, but in the wake of his putting on the orange cap, all that sounds like the same sort of sour grapes that emanated from the other side last year when Marlon Brown pulled a similar 180 and signed with the Dogs. Let’s not stoop to that level. The kid had a change of heart. Leave it at that.

Was the Florida Gators' Recruiting Class Deceived by Urban Meyer?

One day after the Florida Gators inked the top recruiting class in college football on national signing day, UF alum Chan Gailey hired George Edwards to be the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills. Dawg Sports smells a rat . . . and his name is Urban Meyer.

Florida Defensive Coordinator Bolts One Day After Signing Day

One month into his tenure as the Gators' defensive coordinator, George Edwards is leaving Gainesville to return to the NFL ranks. Coach Edwards leaves Florida one day after the team hauled in the country's top-ranked recruiting class on national signing day. Coach Edwards is heading to Buffalo, where he will serve as defensive coordinator under Chan Gailey. Coach Gailey was hired as the Bills' head coach on January 20, after the NFL franchise's season was over and two weeks before high school seniors were allowed to sign their national letters of intent. Given the stellar record of trustworthiness compiled by Urban Meyer, I feel certain this timing was purely coincidental and the Florida coaching staff in no way kept such valuable information as the impending departure of their defensive coordinator from the prospects the Gators were pursuing. Go 'Dawgs!

Lonnie Outlaw makes Fred Gibson look like a girl. He’s the most demoralizing player I have ever coached against. We triple-covered him, and he still caught everything.

Perry coach Andy Scott on the newest Bulldog. MaconDawg quoted it yesterday, but it bore repeating.
