N.C.A.A. Tournament Game Day Open Comment Thread

This is a first here at Dawg Sports . . . an N.C.A.A. basketball tournament game day open comment thread!

If you're like me, you've been counting down to this afternoon's matchup with Xavier. Contrary to AW's lighthearted animadversion, Dennis's Dogs are playing today, not Friday, and the earlier the start, the better for Georgia, given the momentum the Red and Black have carried through the weekend. I wouldn't want a team this hot to cool due to a lengthy layoff.

With the top mascot in the tournament, a re-energized fan base, and reason to dislike the Musketeers thanks to guys like this who completely missed my point, how can we lose?

Please, guys, don't lose.

No vested interest.
For the sake of the bracket, I picked Xavier. But only to the second round, so what the hell, Go Dawgs.

It's Red Bull's and Hot Pockets at work today!
I hope I'm still employed in 5 hours.

Go Dawgs!

What happened?
Im stuck in class and have been giving a presentation. I just got the score. How do they look? How does Xavier look? Foul trouble? Any big runs? HELP ME OUT HERE!!!!

here's the scoop
No foul trouble.  Bliss with 2.  Woodbury has 10 points, Billy 6.  Gaines 7 I think.

We're passing the ball, very patient.  They can shoot outside, but have pretty much been forced to because our defense is still kickass.

They'll make an adjustment at halftime, but right now we're playing with as much confidence as we did all weekend.

That could be big
Id much rather see us close out the half on a high note than the way they did against Arkansas.

Go Dawgs!

both teams look sloppy, but that's ok, b/c i'd rather they play sloppy vs our sloppy than our perfect vs their perfect....lol

and...
Woodbury had 10....streaky much? ;)

Bliss with 3 fouls...
Dawgs by 11...Xavier starting to look concerned.  Their cheerleaders look homely.

ours are homely, too.
our dancing girls or whatever they are, are super-hot tho....wow

It's really been . . .
a microcosym of the Felton era hasn't it? When we shoot the ball well and get good movement and spacing, we have a chance to beat anyone. I'm holding my breath as we enter our traditional danger zone (15:00 left in the game). This is where we really have to dig deep against a deeper team.

46-40 @ 12:21
they're making their run.

by DavetheDawg on Mar 20, 2008 1:52 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

11:42 mark
we're playing very sloppy right now.  To be expected I guess, but keeping our composure right now is the key.  46-42, Dawgs.

they're starting to get...
after balls on the ground more.
this has been our bread & butter the whole post-season.

Diata tried...
to rip that guys foot off....too bad he's not UGA VI. lol

we need to get our....
own rebounds...since we can't shoot.

by dawgaddict on Mar 20, 2008 2:05 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ok...they've caught us and up by 3
let's see if the slipper we've been wearing is causing bunions.

by DavetheDawg on Mar 20, 2008 2:07 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

lets see if we can get a 10-0
run on them, since we just let them have that one...

Gut check...
Not the team.  Me.  I'm outta hot pockets.

Bliss & Fouls
It seems they started calling fouls on him the moment he stepped off the bus.  I'd dispute 3 of his 4 fouls in a very boisterous manner with anyone anywhere.

With 3 minutes left in the game, there's a 19-2 free throw discrepancy?  Especially the way they've manhandled Yata.  I'm displeased.

The no call on Yata's jump ball
That sums up this game.  Georgia isn't good enough to beat one of the top 15 teams in the country and the zebras.  That's pitiful.

It was fun while it lasted...
But it should have lasted at least two more days.  Xavier is the better team, but they didn't play better than Georgia today.  Georgia out-hustled, out-rebounded, and out-shot Xavier.  So, uh, how did they lose?  Oh, that's right.  Xavier's 33 free throw attempts compared to Georgia's 5.  Hmm.  Dave Bliss had a target on his back the entire game.  Anytime he was near the ball the refs got whistle-happy.  Yata Gaines not only had to battle fatigue, but he also was manhandled the entire game.

Cinderella's need breaks to go their way, but none of the breaks went Georgia's way today.  Too bad, really.  They are a much more compelling story than Xavier.

Dave Bliss, standing out of bounds...
Nearly on top of the media table...almost in the first row and they call the ball off his leg.  That's a craptacular way to have to end your career.

What a fun week only to be torpedoed in the last 5:00 minutes by really bad officiating.  Didn't one of those guys work the controversial UCLA game?

Proud of this team.
