Billy Humphrey Arrested? Again?

I hate to bring all of you down off your post-Signing Day high, and at this point I don't have any confirmation, but it looks like a 20 year old black male named William Humphrey was arrested in Athens this morning a little after 2 a.m. for failure to obey a traffic signal (jaywalking) and underage possession of alcohol. Not coincidentally, there is a "Billy" Humphrey who happens to be the leading scorer on the UGA basketball team. Or at least he was before being indefinitely suspended, at least according to his athletic department bio page.

After his previous legal trouble, I'm not sure what this means for Humphrey. I do know that the last thing you should do after a home loss in which you extend your conference losing streak to 3 games is walk around town at 2 a.m. drinking. Stupid. Just. Plain. Stupid. I'll be back with more if I find out more, but it seems like a heck of a coincidence. Geez.

Huh?
What the eff is wrong with the Athens PD?  What did these players ever do to them, steal the department's girlfriend or something?

On the one hand . . .
It is the sort of ticky-tack Fife-ism we've come to expect from the ACCPD. But on the other hand, there's a part of me that thinks a guy who just absorbed another conference loss shouldn't be out walking around downtown with alcohol either on him or in him at 2 a.m. As my former high school coach, the late Dennis Roland, Sr., used to remind us after games "nothing good ever happens after midnight." And he was warning us about the bright lights of Cochran, Georgia. Not Athens. Cochran.

This type of warning should go double for a guy like Humphrey who recently was arrested for a likewise ticky-tack charge of having a too large pocket knife in his dorm room. It's not so much a legal issue as it is an issue of intelligence and maturity. This latest arrest on BH's part demonstrates a debilitating lack of both.

I couldn't agree more with macondawg.  I am 21 but when you go out it's all about being SMART.  Jaywalking is the dumbest thing you can do because ACCPD is just begging for someone to look drunk so they can have probable cause (jaywalking) to give you a MIP.
Put it this way, during my years not being 21, you better believe I waited the extra minute or two for the crosswalk light to change, there was no way I was going to do something stupid that led to an arrest.  Granted underage drinking is stupid in the first place but when it's a place like Athens where it happens every day and night, it's all about being SMART and being aware of your surroundings.  That's half the battle when it comes to not getting arrested.  Clearly Humphrey is not being smart as of late.
