The 2007 College Football Blogger Awards

It's that time of year again! (No, not the time of year for stupid alcohol-related player arrests . . . we covered that yesterday.)

Twelve months ago, Rocky Top Talk's Joel took the lead in establishing The 2006 College Football Blogger Awards. Well, the time has arrived for the 2007 edition of the C.F.B.A.s, which will be hosted by Every Day Should Be Saturday's Orson Swindle, who is ineligible because he won every dadgum award last year. (Not that I'm bitter. . . .)

Joel has posted the run-down of this year's awards at his site, so head over there and check out the details. For the moment, the relevant data are these:

  • C.F.B.A. nominations begin today in every category.
  • Orson will lay out the nomination procedure at his site later this morning.
  • Nominations are open to everyone, both blogger and reader alike.
  • The period from which postings may be nominated runs from roughly the second week of January 2007 through the first week of January 2008, or approximately from one national championship game to the next.
  • Nominations will remain open through next Sunday night.
Any bloggers who are reading this are strongly encouraged to link to Joel's announcement and Orson's forthcoming follow-up posting. We want to spread the word throughout the intercollegiate athletics blogosphere, so that the best blogs will receive their deserved recognition, irrespective of whether they are wildly popular or little known outside certain devotees.

Finally, a blogger cannot nominate his own material. Thus, I am not allowed to nominate any of my own work from 2007, so any nominations I receive must originate with someone else. By the same token, the need to avoid even the appearance of impropriety prohibits me from nominating any of MaconDawg's fine work, so, if he is to receive the recognition he so richly deserves, the nomination process must start with you, as well.

MaconDawg's and my personal aggrandizement aside, this is an opportunity for those who frequent the blogosphere, whether as authors, commenters, or lurkers, to call attention to those whose work is most deserving of praise. As we forge ahead with this new medium for the new millennium, it is important to separate the wheat from the chaff by celebrating the quality work being produced by bloggers. Please take the time to visit Joel's and Orson's sites, consider the categories, and submit those nominees who, in your view, are worthy of recognition.

Go 'Dawgs!
