The Mark Richt Victory Watch

In the aftermath of last night's Sugar Bowl, I am proud and pleased to present the last update of the Mark Richt Victory Watch for the 2007 season . . . or, perhaps, the first update of the Mark Richt Victory Watch for the 2008 season.

The Mark Richt Victory Watch now stands at 72. Coach Richt needs just 129 more victories to tie Vince Dooley as the winningest coach in Georgia history.

By becoming the first Bulldog coach to lead the Red and Black to victory in two Sugar Bowls with the most dominant postseason performance in school history, Coach Richt improved his record to 72-19.

After 91 games on the job, none of Coach Richt's predecessors could match that record of achievement. At the same point in their own careers, Harry Mehre (56-31-4), Wally Butts (66-23-2), and Vince Dooley (61-26-4) all lagged behind Coach Richt in wins and losses.

I'll be taking a look at the game in greater depth later . . . probably tonight, but possibly tomorrow. For now, we in Bulldog Nation should savor this one. Last night, the 'Dawgs served notice that they are a force to be reckoned with in college football. Georgia no longer may be considered merely a regional power. With the team on the upswing and their schedule becoming more national in scope, the Classic City Canines have made it clear that they are Southern Cal with a Southern accent.

There are 241 days remaining until the start of the 2008 season. Are you ready for some football?

Go 'Dawgs!

Wonderful effort
From the big machine (Voltron-ish, or perhaps even better: Tosho Daimos) in red & black.  Just really pleased to see us finish out a great year and great in-season turn-around with that kind of effort. 241 long, agonizing days begin.

Awful, awful effort by the Fox announcing crew.  Just embarassing.  The opposite of the effort of our beloved Bulldogs.

Congrats
Congrats on your big win, from an immensely frustrated Gator. Now you know what beating Ohio State in the national title game felt like, only without the championship.

Future
I don't know Zebrie Sanders, Dwayne Allen, Toby Jackson or AJ Harmon, but I can't see how last night wouldn't have sealed the deal for me and made me want to get on the locomotive (or bullet train) that is the Georgia Bulldogs future. Sure, you can make the case in some instances that you do want to get stuck behind another player and miss your chance, but I think Marcus Howard put that argument to rest and furthermore, as many players as we played last night, UGA showed that they will get all their talent in, if the players show an aptitude for delivering on the field.

I know that everyone is talking about USC, OU, OSU, Florida and us for next year and I won't argue with the first 2, but I think unless Florida gets some help in the secondary and at RB, they are behind us. Also, I heard it mentioned that Urban wants another QB to split time with Tebow because of the beating he takes.
My uncle (Bama) was talking trash at Christmas about what Saban was going to do, but we are at least a full season ahead of them and I think Applewhite is overrated. I know Saban is gobbling up talent, but so are we and we already have more pieces in place.
I am sold on a bright UGA future.
