Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

FOX Sports: Stick to Baseball, please. Or, American Idol.

Charles Davis is not ready to anchor sports in market #199 Mankato, MN.  He's a hack.  Even worse, he's a Tennessee hack.  If you're going to have a Tennessee hack call a football game, get someone who actually was good.  Maybe Al Wilson or Willie Gault or somebody.  Horrible.

Tom Brennaman comitted the greatest Faux Pas in the history of broadcasting.  He referred to us as the Gators.  Damn you, Tom Brennaman.  Are you secretly Mark May's lover?  Did ESPN put you up to that?  I know the hour was late and Charles Davis' cologne was beginning to burn your eyes, but you are a dorkman.

Could Fox Sports run anymore commercials?  Could this game possibly have been stretched any longer?  Does Jimmy Johnson have anything to add?  Could you air one more pre-produced package on the Hawai'i Malaluca Shukalooka Ramalama DingDong overweight mascot dance?

Oh, and a word about instant replay.  What was that stupid zoom camera stuff promoting a commercial all about.  They would pick out a play that occurred about about 2 quarters earlier.

It's too bad the Sugar Bowl was a guinea pig broadcast for FOX.  Too bad they had to do a "dress rehearsal" during an actual live BCS game to prep themselves for the later games on their schedules (with real announcers, I'm sure).  Poor Hawaii fans.  Hawaii fans had to two types of slaughter:  The first wrought by the Dawgs.  The second:  a protracted slow death on live television that could have been wrapped up about 2 hours before it eventually ended.

Announcers
I cringed when I read that Brenneman and Davis were doing this game.  They did the Fiesta Bowl last year and were terrible then.  I thought it might be from not doing a lot of football, but they did games together for the Big 10 network.  They have not gotten any better.

Blowouts like this really test an announcing team.  All the story lines are gone and they end up winging it, but while some can do this well, others cannot.  If it had been any other game than Georgia I would have turned it off and gone to bed.

Not only were the announcers bad but the Pac 10 officials were horrible.  It took way too long to sort out the incomplete pass in the 3rd quarter that Richt challenged and then they screwed up the downs.

I tend not to agree with John Feinstein, but he is right that the officiating needs more oversight (and the conferences need to get out of the officiating business and turn it over to the NCAA completely which I think is a move in progress).

I saw a preview for the movie that was being advertised using the zoom replay thing.  When I saw the trailer in the theatre, I was interested, but not sure I want to see it now because of Fox.

One difference in baseball (at least World Series coverage) and this game--no promos for upcoming Fox shows maybe because the writers are on strike.  I normally count promos for "24" during Fox Sports broadcasts.

I really miss Ron Franklin in games like this...

Ya'll...
are making me glad I was at this game.  While I enjoy the cozy recliner and beer less than 20 feet away that costs $8 a six pack rather than $8 each, after listening to all the announcer talk since I got home, I don't feel too bad about missing the instant replay.

However, I got a small dose of it last night for the WVU/OU game.  Other than the "runaway beer truck" line (which still felt like he had been savoring and dying to use all year), it was definitely some of the worst I've ever heard.  I got the feeling that those guys probably couldn't even find West Virginia on a map, and when Switzer started referring to "us" and "we" at half time, I just felt sick.

Fox...stick to reality tv so I'll have a reason to ignore you even more.

Agree
terrible coverage by FOX and the fiesta too with jimmy making excuses. they did not show the secondary matchup with recievers in the sugar bowl, the camera work was bad. CBS and ABC(ESPN) do a much better job.

Would it be possible....
For all members of the Dawg nation to buy a cheap TV, and just leave it on the local CBS affiliate 24/7? Maybe that would give CBS enough ratings for us to have Uncle Verne at whatever BCS bowl the dawgs should make next year. Hell, I'd rather have the three Daves than blatant Hawaii'i supporter Thom Brenne(ma)n and and ex-vol Chris Davis.
