The Mark Richt Victory Watch

I arrived home from Athens to find a reader request awaiting me in what was an active open comment thread today. I am, of course, happy to oblige by updating the Mark Richt Victory Watch.

This afternoon's victory over Ole Miss gave Mark Richt his 65th career win, placing him only 136 victories shy of tying Vince Dooley for the all-time school record.

With 83 games under his belt, Coach Richt has posted a 65-18 record as the Bulldogs' head coach. At the same juncture in their respective tenures with the Red and Black, Harry Mehre (50-30-3), Wally Butts (60-21-2), and Vince Dooley (56-23-4) all trailed Mark Richt in terms of wins and losses.

Go 'Dawgs!

Florida falls
20-17 to Auburn (or 23-17 since Byrum kicked it twice).

I hate auburn like Kyle, but I also hate Florida too. It's good to see Florida fans so sad.
Also, Ole Miss and Auburn have both given us some ideas how to stop the gators.

Agreed
I rarely root for Auburn, but, when the Gators are in the running for a national title and the Plainsmen aren't, I root for the higher-ranked team to lose when the two sets of stalwarts in orange and blue ("S.O.B.s" for short) meet.

Kentucky is the last unbeaten in the Eastern Division. Suddenly, it's all wide open again and the S.E.C. championship game berth is up for grabs once more.

Next Saturday's showdown in Knoxville just took on a whole new magnitude of meaning.

What a fun day...
Yesterday was blissful for me with the Dawgs winning  big, Navy winning and taking the lead in the CIC Trophy, UF losing, OU losing, ND losing (again).  If only Tech had lost... but then Clem would still be ranked ahead of us, so in a way, Tech helped us.
With so many teams ranked higher than us taking it on the chin sort of clears the way for the Dawg Train.

Go DAWGS!

Kudos to the Plainsmen
I thought I was watching the replay of the 2001 Florida-Auburn game last night.  Similar storyline, same result.  Except Florida was ranked #1 that night.  What does Auburn do in this game that we can't?  Yes, I agree with Fotodog...we've now got a blueprint for an effective defense.  I thought Will Muschamp was particularly stoked.  He did a fine job.

Congratulations, Auburn.  I hate Auburn.

future games
I think Auburn proved you have to have a fast team that can tackle to slow down Florida. The didn't allow many gators to get by them except that one great catch on the sideline.
They also showed that you can pass (and run) on Florida, especially seam routes and over the middle, so hopefully Tripp and the slot guys will be up to the task.

Florida showed a nice blitz toward the end against Cox that worked. It looked like a zone blitz bringing 2 guys (LB & safety?) from the right side of the defense (weakside of the offense, I think). Auburn usually only picked up 1 guy and the other pressured Cox into bad passes.

Thomas Brown
If I have the numbers right, Thomas Brown now has 2260 career rushing yards through the Ole Miss Game.

I can only find the top 5 career rushers in the UGA media guide online.  5th place is Kevin Lee with 2581 yards.  4th is Rodney Hampton (2668) and 3rd is Lars Tate (3017) and 2nd is Garrison Hearst (3232).

If TB avg 80 in the next 7 games, he would end up with 2820 yards and sitting in 4th place within sight of Lars Tate.
