Georgia Jumps to 16th in Latest BlogPoll

The new BlogPoll is out and the 'Dawgs are up to No. 16, making Georgia the highest-ranked of the once-beaten teams.

There was no movement among the top seven teams in the poll, with Louisiana State hauling in 37 of the 65 first-place votes, trailed by Southern California (25), Oklahoma (2), and Florida (1).

Penn State's plummet from No. 8 to No. 22 allowed Texas, Oregon, Boston College, Wisconsin, and Rutgers all to move up one spot in the standings. Alabama's fall from No. 13 to No. 24 and South Carolina's drop from No. 14 to No. 17 likewise made room for Clemson, Kentucky, and South Florida to move up three spots each.

Georgia is ranked one notch above South Carolina, which Brian rightly (albeit perhaps unduly vehemently) decries. Notably, no Georgia weblogger ranked the Bulldogs ahead of the Gamecocks. The Palmetto State Poultry were ranked one spot ahead of the Classic City Canines on my ballot.

I finished fifth in the running for this week's Coulter/Krugman Award after having finished second in the race for the Straight Bangin' Award last week. A big road win over a resurgent conference rival with a storied history will do that for you.

I am, however, proceeding with caution. Finishing first in the Coulter/Krugman Award standings has doomed such teams as Georgia Tech, U.C.L.A., and Alabama, so, if present trends continue, Michigan State is going down this weekend, as I predicted the Spartans would.

I am one of two Georgia webloggers who finished among the five finalists to be named the most shameless homer among the BlogPollsters, but, fortunately, a South Carolina weblogger is ahead of us both.
