No. 1 Georgia in Hunt for Men's Golf Title After Day One at N.C.A.A. Tourney

Wednesday marked the opening day of the N.C.A.A. men's golf tournament and, although No. 1 Georgia finished the first round in eighth place, the Bulldogs are just seven strokes behind the early leader.

Stanford occupies the first-place spot after shooting a 275 on the first day. At 282, the Red and Black are two over par yet very much in the mix.

In addition to the Cardinal, the Classic City Canines also trail Coastal Carolina (277), Florida (278), Minnesota (278), Texas (278), Charlotte (279), and East Tennessee State (280). In short, if the Bulldogs gain just four shots on the rest of the field on Thursday, Georgia will work its way up to third place.

Although the Red and Black lag behind the hated Gators, their eight-place standing puts them ahead of Alabama (284), Tennessee (284), and Vanderbilt (284), all of which are tied for 12th; Georgia Tech (288), two shots behind Georgia State in a two-way tie for 20th; South Carolina (291), at 25th; and Auburn (295), at 30th. I hate Auburn.

The Bulldogs will be back out on the course bright and early Thursday morning to start their tee times at 7:00 a.m.
