Women's Golf Team Still in N.C.A.A. Tournament Mix

On Tuesday, while the Georgia men's tennis team was capturing its fifth N.C.A.A. championship for the top athletics program in the S.E.C., the third-ranked Red and Black women's golf team began competing in the N.C.A.A. championship tournament.

Can you buy one of these bad boys in Gainesville, Fla.? I don't think so, my friend!

Although the Bulldogs faltered down the stretch, carding a quartet of double-bogeys during the last six holes, Georgia's strong start on the first day kept the Classic City Canines in the mix as the lady linksters shot a 303 in the initial round to tie for seventh, eight shots in back of early leader Southern California.

Georgia improved in the second round on Wednesday, shooting a collective 299 to inch up into sixth place. No. 1 Duke took over the top spot with a 287 on the second day.

The Bulldogs head into Thursday's third round at 602 for the tournament, 15 shots behind the Blue Devils (587) and within eight strokes of the second- through fifth-place teams, U.C.L.A. (594), Purdue (597), Stanford (599), and Southern California (601).

As Mulligan Stu pointed out, Golfweek is tracking the action in the women's tournament, so, if you're not a golf bigot, be sure to take a look.

What's not to like?

In other news, SportSouth and the University of Georgia Athletic Association announced a multi-year deal for the Bulldog football and men's basketball coaches' shows to be televised on SportSouth, beginning in the 2007-'08 school year. If you find yourself hunting for "The Mark Richt Show" on the wrong channel next fall, don't say I didn't warn you.

Go 'Dawgs!
