As I mentioned on Friday while I wasn't covering a baseball game, Georgia's and Auburn's men's tennis teams advanced to meet one another in the second round of the N.C.A.A. tournament. Well, Georgia's and Auburn's women's tennis teams also advanced to meet one another in the second round of the N.C.A.A. tournament. I hate Auburn.
On the masculine side of the house, the second-round showdown between the ancient rivals was moved indoors, where the Red and Black handed the Plainsmen a 4-0 setback to improve to 28-0 on the season. The top-ranked Bulldogs' opponent in the round of 16 will be Florida.
Here's hoping Georgia hands these guys another national championship-bound smackdown on the road to establishing once and for all which is the premiere athletics program in the S.E.C.
Finally, following a sixth-place finish on Friday, Georgia's top-seeded women's golf team worked its way up to second place in the standings on Saturday. Although the Red and Black finished 11 strokes behind N.C.A.A. Central Regional champion Southern California, the Bulldogs' 881 carried them past Texas Christian (883), Indiana (884), Arizona (885), and Vanderbilt (886) in a crowded field. Georgia now advances to the championship round of the national collegiate tournament.
