Ere I retire for the evening, I would like to take a brief moment to attend to some housekeeping details, so that I will know that I have done my part to keep Bulldog Nation apprised of all matters, great and small, of interest within its borders; as we say in the law, to wit:
- First of all, I hope everyone has noticed the Virginia Tech flag flying at half-staff on the left-hand sidebar of this and several other SportsBlogs Nation sites. This is the handiwork of Rocky Top Talk's Joel, who (along with A.C. Evans) had some kind remarks regarding my posting on the shootings Monday evening, for which I am obliged. If you are interested in making a donation in the aftermath of this tragedy, please visit the Virginia Tech website. Your compassion in the wake of these terrible events would be welcome and appreciated. Closer to home, permission has been given to accept donations on behalf of Bulldog defensive lineman Michael Lemon and his younger brother following the passing of their mother, as well.
- On a less somber subject, the sports communications staff in Athens has reported: "The equitation on the flat quad swept Baylor 4-0 to highlight the first round of competition for Georgia at the 2007 Varsity Equestrian National Championships Wednesday evening." Honestly, I have no idea what any of that means, but I'm glad the Georgia equestrian team is doing well and I plan to use the foregoing phrase at my earliest opportunity.
For instance, had the saying been at my disposal at Bloggerpalooza '07, I would have said, "The equitation on the flat quad swept Josh 4-0 to highlight the first round of tailgating for Georgia at the 2007 G-Day game Saturday morning" every time the drunk guy attempted to climb the tree and failed.
- It is S.E.C. tournament time in certain spring sports, as Georgia's third-ranked women's golf team is bound for the Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss., for a shot at the conference crown, our top-ranked men's golf team is off to the Sea Island Golf Club on St. Simons Island in pursuit of the identical objective (albeit with a Y chromosome), and, after capturing back-to-back regular-season S.E.C. titles, the No. 1-ranked and top-seeded men's tennis team is headed to Baton Rouge to defend its Southeastern tournament title of a year ago. Be sure to follow the exploits of these first-rate representatives of the Red and Black as they underscore the point that Georgia has one of the top collegiate athletics programs in the land.
- Finally, "Dawg Days" are coming to a Bulldog Club near you, as Mark Richt will be making the rounds, most often accompanied by Dennis Felton but occasionally alongside Suzanne Yoculan. Here are the dates and individuals to contact if you are interested in attending:
