Defensive Coordinator Poll Results (Late Returns From Jacksonville Pending)

It's almost unfair for me to post the results of the latest balloting, what with such intervening events as The Game, The Smooch, The Rant, and The Gracious Postgame Exchange on the Call-In Show, but, in the interests of thoroughness, these are they:

Although the balloting in the most recent Dawg Sports poll question ended on Saturday morning, the question posed to Bulldog Nation was this one: "In 2008, Georgia's defensive coordinator should be . . ."

To no one's surprise, the clear favorite was Auburn defensive coordinator and Georgia alumnus Will Muschamp, who received 135 of the 333 votes cast (40.5%), with former Bulldog D.C. and current Atlanta Falcons linebackers coach Brian VanGorder making a horse race out of it by pulling in 101 votes (30.3%).

Over 70 per cent of the electorate favored one of those two candidates, leaving current Red and Black defensive coordinator Willie Martinez with just 52 votes (15.6%). Arizona head coach Mike Stoops, who likely will lose his job at the end of this season, received 19 votes (5.7%), trailed closely by Georgia defensive line coach Rodney Garner's 17 votes (5.1%).

The remaining ballots were scattered among the candidates proposed by The Realist: Kansas co-defensive coordinator Clint Bowen received seven votes (2.1%) and both Kent State defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis and Indianapolis Colts secondary coach Alan Williams received one vote apiece (0.3%). Neither Jackson State defensive coordinator Darrin Hayes nor former Georgia Southern defensive coordinator Joe Tresey was chosen on so much as a single ballot. Sorry, guys.

Once again, Saturday's restoration of the natural order of the universe may change the math altogether, and, after being too quick to jump aboard the "Fire Willie Martinez!" bandwagon last year, I'm trying to be a bit more measured in my constructive criticisms. Moreover, this is not a scientific poll, so attach to it such significance as you will. Nevertheless, it is what it is, so there you have it.

Since the sound of the roundball slapping against the hardwood will be upon us sooner than you think, we've shifted gears---or, at least, sports---for this week's poll question, which is: "How will the Georgia men's basketball team fare this season?" Let us know your thoughts by voting here.

Go 'Dawgs!

When you posted the list I had to look up some of the guys. It's been a while since I did, so I may have my guys confused, but I think that Rekstis jumped out to me as someone worth looking at, but I voted for Muschamp. Of course, that was well before Saturday's game. The frustrating thing is that CWM has shown some ability, he, like the defense this year, just need to be more consistent.
