Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

'Dawgs Congratulate Gators . . . with Ulterior Motive

In 1964, Alabama won the national championship. In 1965, Georgia beat the Crimson Tide, 18-17.

In 1981, Clemson won the national championship. In 1982, Georgia beat the Tigers, 13-7.

In 1990, Georgia Tech won a share of the national championship. In 1991, Georgia beat the Yellow Jackets, 18-15.

In 1996, Florida won the national championship. In 1997, Georgia beat the Gators, 37-17.

In 2003, L.S.U. won a share of the national championship. In 2004, Georgia beat the Bayou Bengals, 45-16.

There are exceptions, of course . . . Tennessee won the national title in 1998 and went on to defeat the Bulldogs in 1999, although the Volunteers proceeded to lose five of the following six series meetings to the Red and Black.

However, the fact remains that defending national champions are 1-5 against the 'Dawgs over the course of the last 43 seasons.

Accordingly, my heartfelt congratulations go out to the Florida Gators on their 2006 national championship.

We'll look forward to seeing y'all in Jacksonville in 2007.

Go 'Dawgs!

Dawgs = National champs?
We kicked Auburn's butt who, in turn, beat the hated Gators.

By this logic ...... Vandy is the MNC!

SEC is the conference
Notre Dame is a poser and the Big 10 would get a run from Vandy and Miss State.

A travesty the idiot coaches didnt rank Georgia in the final poll.  Sure, we should have taken care of our business.  Maybe it will motivate for next year.  Bring on the Cowboys!

PS: Get rid of Fox in college football.  That was awful.  I forget, did they mention Troy Smith had a tough childhood?

The run/pass option
Yep, and that 'run/pass' option.  I swear, not only did they use that line ad nauseum during the Fiesta Bowl, they pulled it out again last night when Tebow got in the game.

"It's an option play with Tebow in?  GEE, YOU THINK?"

block option
Too bad OSU chose not to use the Block Option with UF's D line.

Don't forget....
... 51 days off! How many times did they say that?

Fox has no business doing Bowls
Either use the NFL crews or walk away.  Chris Rose is a clown.  I would rather listen to Vitale and Berman simulataneously as my nails were pulled from my fingers.

I think the Alvarez Big 10 broadcast team almost forgot Florida was playing in the game between the shots of Ginn and the constant Troy rehash.  Hey, this just in... UF won, it was no fluke.  The Big 10 proved they are slow, stout, and inferior. I know I am a SEC homer.

I totally don't get why Tebow succeeds
I acknowledge (grudgingly) that he does, but, when he comes into the game, you know exactly what he's going to do.

It became a running joke with my wife and me. Every time he trotted onto the field, I'd turn to Susan and say, "Look, it's Tebow! I bet he's going to run it up the middle."

The one time he ran between the guard and the tackle, it seemed like a breakthrough innovation.

He runs exactly one play. Paul Westerdawg is right . . . he isn't a quarterback, he's a fullback who lines up under center. Why opposing defenses don't stick 11 guys in the box and knock him down when he runs straight ahead is beyond me.

I can't wait
to have Tebow behind center for every snap for the Gators next year.  I could hardly stand it this year when Gator fans were crowing about how much better Tebow was doing than Stafford.

Tebow played what, like 35 downs total?  And all he did was run straight ahead!  His big accomplishment this year was the amazing invention of throwing the ball whilst jumping.

Uh, hooray.

Let's see him on 3rd and 15
I will admit I have Gator friends.  Not one will admit they are looking forward to next season's 5 yards and a cloud of dust scheme.  Hey, 3rd and 1, Tebow is awesome when he doesnt fumble.  No doubt.  Can he drive the field with 53 seconds?  Can he distribute the ball?  Who knows.  I do know that in big games and in big yardage downs, he was wearing a headset... not a helmet.

Good One . . .
Re: Tebow -- a "running" joke.  I get it.  Funny.  That's good stuff.
I'm with you completely on this point.  The frustrating thing is our guys didn't seem to get it either when we played UF.  Tebow ran against us six times for thirty-six yards (a 6.0 per carry average) -- he didn't even try to throw it.  As much of a blow out as last night's game was, he managed only 3.9 yards per carry against Ohio State (although admittedly he was usually starting from inside OSU's five or so).  I sure hope SOMEBODY gets this guy's number next year before ESPN adopts Tebow as their weekly spotlighted "playmaking" mascot a la GT's Calvin Johnson.

I'd love it if Tebow was the next C.J. . . .
. . . because that would mean there was a Georgia defender who, after the fashion of Paul Oliver, would make it his personal mission in life to shut E.S.P.N. up by shutting their golden boy down.

Sadly, though, you're right . . . Tim Tebow is successful in his role as a one-trick pony. We'll see how he does when he's the feature back instead of a utility player, though.

Personally, I hope he fails miserably, and not just for the obvious reasons. I'm sick and tired of seeing him jump up and down after every three-yard gain like a Gramatica who just hit a 30-yard field goal in the N.F.L. preseason.

I mean . . .
. . . just look at this chump:

Get over yourself, dude.

Dont worry
Even if he averages 6 yards/carry next year, there is NO way his body will endure a 12 game schedule.  Forget about it.  Now if he learns to pass (with his feet on the ground) in that 2-5 yard multi receiver screen package, it will keep all 11 D guys honest.  Not scared, just taking notice.  Certainly we will know a lot about that by Octobers end.
