Buddy of Mine Gets Coolest Government Job Other Than Astronaut

Although this news is unrelated to Bulldog athletics, it has to do with a legitimate point of pride for the University of Georgia, so I hope you will not mind my taking the time to address it.

Jason T. Burnette, a longtime friend of mine and a fellow alumnus of both the Phi Kappa Literary Society and the Joseph Henry Lumpkin School of Law, has been selected to serve as a law clerk for the Honorable John G. Roberts, Jr., who just happens to be the chief justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.

I'd like to be able to claim some degree of credit for Jason's success (which, actually, I jokingly did in an exchange with Ian after I congratulated them both on their graduation from law school), but the truth is that his every achievement was wholly his own doing and he fully deserves every positive development to have come his way, this latest one most definitely included.

It should be noted, by the way, that Chief Justice Roberts is himself a former U.S. Supreme Court law clerk, so this could be the start of even bigger and better things for Jason. A few years from now, right around the time the Mark Richt Victory Watch is reaching that magical number of 201, Jason Burnette could fulfill Beano Cook's stated wish of seeing a University of Georgia graduate on the U.S. Supreme Court.

My congratulations go out to Jason and to his wife, Kati. We're proud of you.
