Week One BlogPoll Ballot Submitted

Now that college football season is underway, complete with games and everything, it is time to put aside the sheer speculation of my preseason BlogPoll ballot and offer instead a set of top 25 rankings that are based on actual evidence; to wit:

Rank Team Delta
1 Texas --
2 Southern Cal 1
3 Ohio State 2
4 Auburn 2
5 Florida State 11
6 Oregon 9
7 Tennessee 10
8 Iowa 1
9 Florida 5
10 West Virginia 1
11 Louisiana State 5
12 Louisville 4
13 Michigan 1
14 Georgia --
15 Miami (Florida) 4
16 TCU 3
17 Notre Dame 7
18 UCLA 3
19 Clemson 4
20 Penn State 6
21 Cal 14
22 Nebraska 4
23 Virginia Tech 3
24 Oklahoma 6
25 Alabama 5

Dropped Out: Navy (#22), Utah (#24), Arizona State (#25).

Feel free to register your assent or discontent below. The votes of my fellow BlogPollsters are available for your perusal, as well.

Should the polls be based on what we think will be the case or what is the case? Because if the polls were truly a reflection of what has happened thus far this season, I don't see how anyone but Tennessee could be ranked No. 1.

If I had a vote, I'd vote the Vols first and the Noles second. No one else played and beat opponents of such a high quality.

My BlogPoll ballot is partly reflective . . .
. . . and partly predictive. That is, I'm going by events (hence, Tennessee and Florida State rose) but also projecting future outcomes (I believe Texas would beat either the Vols or the 'Noles head-to-head).

If we were going strictly by performance, Division I-AA Montana State (which beat defending division champion Colorado) would be ranked and Miami (which is 0-1) would not.

However, as I indicated earlier, I agree with Rece Davis that, for the month of September, a voter's ballot should be "a fluid situation," subject to substantial revision as offseason theories give way to fall facts . . . and persuasive arguments.
