Late Night Dawg Bites

The weekend is almost upon us . . . although, really, that just means Friday is liable to be a full-fledged free-for-all as you try to put out fires and keep a lid on things at the office so you can grab a couple of hours of peace and quiet at the homestead.

In that spirit, I'll make this short and sweet, so hold on, 'cause here's what you need to know:

• The Western Kentucky game will kick off at 12:30. I'm fine with that, but Nico is gloating just a little and Paul Westerdawg is ticked.
• I have had my say on the East Coast bias, but some fine reader comments followed my latest article upon the subject, including one from USCLink, who (as Conquest Chronicles notes) is now on my radar screen. The Dawg Sports comment of the week, though, came from a personal friend who prefers to remain nameless; be sure to check out his response to my Colorado preview.

• Evidently, U.C.L.A. is considering watering down its color scheme. As I indicated previously, I don't think that's a good idea.
• I thought the N.C.A.A. couldn't get any more ridiculous in its political correctness. I was wrong. (I thank Paul Westerdawg for bringing this to our attention.)

I hope Orson's first question is, "Approximately how many hours of sleep do you lose per week while lying awake at night worrying about the ways in which intercollegiate athletics may be misperceived as insensitive by the hypersensitive?"

• By the way, while the N.C.A.A. has been busy wringing its hands over sideline mascots, historic flags, and other time-honored traditions, the following events have taken place in college football: Oklahoma dismissed two starters for accepting payments for work they did not do, Auburn suspended two linebackers over alcohol-related arrests, Tennessee dismissed a player charged with drunken driving after a campus police officer saw him driving on the sidewalk and another Vol was charged with aggravated assault, Miami suspended four players for violating team policies, Utah State dismissed a linebacker for repeated violations after he and four teammates were cited for marijuana possession, Air Force indefinitely suspended its placekicker for an undisclosed violation, a San Jose State football player was charged with robbery, a Southern California defensive back reportedly tested positive for steroids, Cal's quarterback plead no contest to a misdemeanor arising from his involvement in a bar fight, and an Arkansas running back reportedly was also involved in a bar fight. Way to keep those priorities in order there, guys.
• To top it all off, Sunday Morning Quarterback won't be previewing Georgia. I'm thinking of starting a petition or something.
